In many villages in the Vulkaneifel - and especially here in Gees - the water from some springs used to be used as a leavening agent in baking. Even today, some people swear by adding carbonated mineral water to the dough. If you also want to try it: The Geeser Drees is freely accessible and can be tasted.

The source here in Gees bubbles up in a sandstone surround with a very unique mineralization. The Geeser Drees is one of the iron-rich springs, which can be easily recognized by the fact that the water drains and the spring pot are covered with rust-red iron oxides and hydroxides.
