Hilgerather Kirche

Hilgerath Church

The Hilgerath parish church, standing alone high up on the mountain, has always been a parish church. The tower dates from around the middle of the 15th century, as the design reveals.

The main nave has existed in its current form since 1804, and in 1950 the church was expanded to include two side aisles. The valuable Hilgerath miraculous picture from the middle of the 15th century is entitled “Lamentation of Christ” and has already seen a lot: it was stolen from the parish church in 1975 during a burglary. It was not until 1994 that the pastor was able to bring the miraculous image, which had now appeared in Biberach/Riß (Baden-Württemberg), back to Hilgerath.
