Nature parks are defined in conservation law as large areas particularly suitable for recreation. They are established in large recreational areas of the countryside in order to coordinate the interests of land and nature conservation on the one hand with the requirements of those seeking relaxation and recreation.
According to state regulations, however, the role of the Vulkaneifel Nature and Geopark is not just to maintain and develop its unique landscape, formed by volcanic activity and specific use of the land, but also to promote sustainable regional development. The Vulkaneifel Nature and Geopark also focuses on environmental education.
